SAN ANTONIO, TX –
A 24-year-old male inmate died Thursday at the Bexar County Jail.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate was found unresponsive around 8:44 a.m. by a deputy.
Deputies, jail medical staff and San Antonio Fire Department emergency medical technicians tried to help the inmate, but he died, BCSO officials said.
The inmate had been in jail since July 4 for possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram, BCSO officials said.
His name hasn’t been released until next of kin are notified.
The BCSO Criminal Investigations Division, Internal Affairs, and the Public Integrity Unit will conduct an investigation.
The death marks the third high-profile incident at the jail in the past five days.
