DOC Charges Inmate, Visitor in Scheme to Smuggle Opioids into Delaware Prison

A pair from Lewes was charged with attempting to smuggle in opioids to a Delaware prison where one of the individuals was an incarcerated offender the other would visit, Delaware Department of Correction officials announced Wednesday.

According to authorities, Teresa C. Cook, 38, attempted to enter the lobby of the Sussex Correctional Institution at 23203 DuPont Boulevard on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, to visit Aron W. McNatt, 36, while in possession of Suboxone concealed on her person.

Cook was a person of interest in an earlier contraband investigation, authorities said, and the SCI Special Operations Investigation Unit determined sentenced offender McNatt had solicited Cook to bring the drugs during a scheduled visit.

Cook was charged by Delaware State Police with intent to deliver a controlled substance, promoting prison contraband, and second-degree conspiracy, all felonies. She was committed to SCI in lieu of $3,500 secured bond.
