Pima County Jail Hires New Person to Reduce Jail Population

TUCSON, ARIZONA — The Sheriff’s department has hired Mike Steber, a coordinator, to reduce the number of inmates.

He will look at the jail’s roster and case management system to look for inmates who can be release safely while waiting for their court hearings.

He’ll also talk to agencies to find inmates who will undergo counseling or treatments for addictions.

Sheriff Mark Napier tell us he believes having a jail population coordinator will help reduce costs and keep the county safer.
