An inmate at the Norfolk City Jail died in his cell Wednesday night, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
A deputy conducting rounds at the jail found Travis Antorio Haynes, 31, unresponsive and hanging in his cell just before 7:30 p.m, according to the statement.
Haynes was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. The jail provided no other details.
Haynes was booked into the jail June 7 on a robbery charge.
