Key Features of ELITE Academy for Jail & Corrections Command Staff

ELITE Academy delivered top-tier training with NIJO-developed curriculum, led by nationally recognized attorneys and corrections experts. Covering critical topics—policy development, inmate rights, budgeting, inspections, and leadership—this program equipped attendees with real-world solutions. Beyond the classroom, participants built valuable connections with professionals from other agencies, sharing insights and strategies to tackle common corrections challenges.

NIJO is Committed to Providing Legal-Based Training for Jail Administrators & their Staff

At the National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO), we are dedicated to delivering legal-based administrative training that aligns with constitutional requirements, federal laws, and Supreme Court rulings. NIJO Executive Director Tate McCotter highlights why this focus is essential:

“Most people don’t realize just how complex jail operations truly are—or how rapidly the challenges are evolving for today’s corrections administrators. As facilities and inmate populations change, relying on outdated ‘best practices’ simply isn’t enough. Administrators must be equipped with up-to-date, legally sound knowledge to make informed, defensible decisions. That’s exactly why we created ELITE Academy..”

Understanding and applying the law isn’t just about compliance—it’s about creating smarter, more effective corrections management. Every jail operates with different budgets, layouts, and populations, but a strong legal foundation allows administrators to tailor policies, procedures, and training to fit their specific needs. This proactive approach builds trust, confidence, and accountability—not just among staff and inmates, but also within the communities they serve.

About NIJO

The National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) was formed as the primary resource dedicated to serve those that operate jails, detention, and correctional facilities. Recognizing the enormous liability an increasing litigation facing administrators, NIJO provides a compilation of legal-based resources and information for agencies to make facilities safer and more secure, proactively defend against frivolous litigation and protect against adverse publicity and liability.
